Telling Your Kids About Sex!

Don't worry this vlog is pg rated as well. And if you have can't afford NOT to watch it...

I found these great books that really cover everything your kid needs to know about sex, when they need to know it. Mark and I decided that we wanted to be the ones to educate our kids, and not leave it to the other children on the playground.  But we were sort of at a loss as to what to say, what not to say, and what age to start the conversation.

I came across this fabulous series that covers this topic, while doing it in an age-appropriate way over time. The series is called God’s Design for Sex, written by Brenna B. Jones and Carolyn Nystrom. The series includes four books, which span ages 3 through 14 years old, so you can begin the conversation at a young age and add details as needed.

The first book is for kids ages 3 to 5 years old. It’s a very watered-down version of where your child came from. But the real doozy is Book 2, which actually uses the correct vocabulary for body parts, and their function. It claims to be for ages 5 to 8 years old, but that felt early to us so we waited a bit longer. When we did get around to reading it to our daughter, she was totally fine until she learned the big news about what goes where, and then she was pretty blown away. Our son, the other hand… when it was his turn to have the book read to him, he found the whole thing hysterical.  So I can’t guarantee how your child is going to react, but this series, which continues on in two more books for ages 8 to 11 years old, and 11 to 14 years old, covers the “birds and the bees” in a very accurate and appropriate manner.  Now, arm yourself with these books, and good luck on the big talk!
